Renault pay tribute to aerodynamicist Toso 13 Aug 2008
Renault have confirmed that the team’s former director of aerodynamics, Dino Toso, lost his battle with illness on Wednesday morning and passed away peacefully at his home, aged 39.
“Dino was instrumental in building one of the sport's most successful aerodynamics departments, which helped the Renault F1 team win double drivers' and constructors' titles in 2005 and 2006,” said the team in a statement.
“His contribution to the team, both through his results and his courage in the face of illness, are an inspiration. He will be missed enormously and the immediate thoughts of the whole team are with his family.”
The Italian’s racing career began with BMW's GT programme in 1995, before a move into Formula One with Jordan in 1997. He joined Renault in 2000, reuniting with former Jordan colleague Mike Gascoyne, and became chief aerodynamicist in 2003.
He left Renault in June, after eight years at the team, with the intention of seeking new challenges in motorsport.
