Practice One - Red Bull duo set early Silverstone pace 19 Jun 2009
Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber staked their claim to the last British Grand Prix at Silverstone in Friday morning’s first practice session by blitzing the times.
The German lapped in 1m 19.400s, the Australian 1m 19.682s, to head Brawn duo of Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello on 1m 20.227s and 1m 20.242s respectively. The latter, however, are very happy to have had such a strong start to a weekend after their initial struggle in Turkey.
The teams’ respective fuel loads are not known. Behind them, Fernando Alonso was fifth for Renault on 1m 20.458s, pursued closely by Ferrari’s Felipe Massa (1m 20.471s), Toyota’s Jarno Trulli (1m 20.585s), McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton (1m 20.650s), Williams’ Nico Rosberg (1m 20.815s), Force India’s Giancarlo Fisichella (1m 20.838s) and Adrian Sutil (1m 20.913s) in sixth down to 11th places.
2008 polesitter Heikki Kovalainen was 12th in the second McLaren on 1m 21.029s, ahead of Nick Heidfeld in the leading BMW Sauber (1m 21.103s), Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen (1m 21.179s), Toro Rosso’s Sebastien Bourdais (1m 21.384s), Toyota’s Timo Glock (1m 21.386s), Williams’ Kazuki Nakajima (1m 21.489s), Renault’s Nelson Piquet (1m 21.525s), Toro Rosso’s Sebastien Buemi (1m 21.590s) and BMW Sauber’s Robert Kubica (1m 21.801s).
The only incidents were spins for Piquet and Glock.
