Toyota driver Timo Glock has been sent to the back of the grid for Sunday’s German Grand Prix after stewards decided he blocked Renault’s Fernando Alonso during qualifying on Saturday.

Alonso was on a flying lap in Q1 when he came upon Glock travelling more slowly. Although the Spaniard made it through to Q2, and eventually qualified in 12th, the race stewards decided to demote Glock on the grid and also reprimand him after judging the incident to be 'potentially dangerous'.

Glock was handed a three-place grid penalty, but as he qualified in just 19th for the Nurburgring event, he will start from 20th. Toro Rosso’s Sebastien Bourdais is thus promoted one place and will start on Sunday from P19.

In a separate incident, the Red Bull team were also fined and reprimanded by the stewards for releasing Sebastian Vettel in an unsafe fashion from a Q2 pit stop while Williams's Kazuki Nakajima was already coming down the pit lane.
