Damaged cable caused timing problems 26 Jul 2009

Following some confusion with the times, the top 3, Alonso, Vettel and Webber take their plaudits

Formula One Management has revealed the cause of the timing problems at the end of Saturday’s Hungaroring qualifying session.

“In the closing minutes of the third part of the Formula One Qualifying session yesterday the finish line sensor suffered a mechanical failure in the form of a damaged cable,” read a statement released Sunday.

“Standard procedures were followed and the back-up sensor used. Once the verification procedures were complete the full results were published.

“At no time was any timing data lost.”
