Schumacher to test F2007 again 10 Aug 2009
As his planned return to the Formula One cockpit draws ever closer, seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher is to ratchet up his preparations and get back behind the wheel of an F2007 this week. Schumacher has arranged a two-day test at the Italian track, Mugello, from Tuesday.
It follows the German's one-day stint in the two-year-old car, running on GP2 slick tyres, just over a week ago. Schumacher has set up the test with the Italian car manufacturers F1 Clienti department and is understood to be paying for the private session himself.
Ferrari had hoped to secure Schumacher a test of the current F60, but this was ruled out after rival teams objected to the plans, which would have broken 2009 regulations preventing in-season testing.
As well as this on-track work, Schumacher has been busy behind the scenes getting race ready for his return at the European Grand Prix later this month, where he is expected to deputise for the injured Felipe Massa.
He has visited Ferraris factory to familiarize himself with the F60's controls and to use the teams simulator, while fitness training has already seen him lose three kilograms of weight.
