Barrichello to get gearbox grid penalty 26 Sep 2009
Brawn GPs Rubens Barrichello will be handed a penalty by race stewards after his car needed a new gearbox ahead of qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix. Barrichello will drop five places on the grid as a result of the change.
The Brazilian covered 16 laps during Saturdays final practice session to finish seventh in the timesheets, without suffering any noticeable problems in his BGP001. However, the team have been concerned about the box since start-line issues in Belgium and have opted not to risk it any further.
This season the regulations state that gearboxes must last four race weekends.
