Five-place grid penalty for Chandhok 17 Apr 2010
HRT driver Karun Chandhok has been handed a five-place grid penalty for Sundays Chinese Grand Prix by the Shanghai race stewards, after a seal was broken on his gearbox on Friday night.
The regulations state that when a team opens a cars gearbox the work must be carried out in the presence of an FIA delegate. HRT, however, are understood to have performed work on the Indian drivers car without an official on hand.
However, with Chandhok finishing qualifying on Saturday at the back of the field in 24th, the penalty is unlikely to affect his grid position.
