Unwell Yamamoto replaced by Klien in Singapore 24 Sep 2010
HRTs test and reserve driver Christian Klien is to race in Singapore this weekend after his team mate Sakon Yamamoto was forced to withdraw due to illness. Yamamoto, who was at the Marina Bay circuit on Thursday, is believed to have food poisoning.
Klien, who will compete alongside team mate Bruno Senna, has taken part in a couple of Friday practice sessions for HRT this year. The 27 year-olds most recent appearance behind the wheel of the F110 was at Junes European Grand Prix.
It looks as if Sakon Yamamoto has a food poisoning, and he doesn't feel well, explained HRT team principal Colin Kolles. Because of this, Christian Klien will be driving the car this Friday and the rest of the Singapore Grand Prix. I hope Sakon gets well soon and is able to drive at his home Grand Prix in Japan."
Klien was a test driver in 2007 at Honda and at BMW Sauber in 2008 and 2009. His maiden season of Formula One competition was with Jaguar Racing in 2004, aged just 21, after which he joined Red Bull Racing for two seasons in 2005-2006. The Austrian has participated in 46 Grands Prix and enjoyed his best finish - fifth - at the 2005 Chinese race.
