Kobayashi sports Linkin Park helmet design 25 Nov 2011
Saubers Kamui Kobayashi is wearing a special helmet livery in Brazil this weekend, personally designed for him by Joe Hahn, producer and member of US rock group Linkin Park. The helmet will be auctioned after Sundays race to raise money for Japanese earthquake victims.
It follows a recent encounter in Singapore between Kobayashi and the band, whose Music for Relief project has raised more than $5 million for disaster victims and environmental projects. Of this, $700,000 has already been donated to Japan following the disasters that struck the country in March this year.
Ive long been a fan of Linkin Park, said the Japanese driver. I love their music and Im impressed by the bands social commitment. I was thrilled to meet the musicians personally in the paddock when they were giving a concert at the Singapore Grand Prix.
Weve been in touch since then and Im really pleased that Joe Hahn has designed a helmet for me. I hope that we will be able to raise a lot of money for Music for Relief to help rebuild my country.
Hahn added: This was a fun opportunity to create something for Kamui while continuing our efforts to raise funds for Japan.
