Luxury Swiss brand Hublot, the Official Watchmaker of Formula 1™, held a special event in Shanghai on Friday evening to unveil its new F1 King Power Ceramic watch and to celebrate this weekend’s 2011 FORMULA 1 UBS CHINESE GRAND PRIX.

Jean-Claude Biver, Hublot CEO, and Chinese celebrity Han Han were both in attendance at the glamorous press conference and VIP dinner. A rally driver, best-selling author and the country’s most popular blogger, Han Han was announced as a new goodwill ambassador for Hublot during the evening and will be charged with promoting racing in China and supporting young Chinese drivers.

Following on from the phenomenal success of Zirconium and King Gold versions, the F1 King Power Ceramic is the third member of the company’s prestigious watch series, developed with and for the world of Formula One.

An ideal watch-making material, ceramic is 30 percent lighter than steel and 100 percent anti-allergenic and rust-proof. Limited to just 500 numbered pieces, the F1 King Power Ceramic features a 48mm-diameter micro-blasted black ceramic case, a dial bearing the official Formula 1™ logo and a drilled 'brake disc' ceramic ring on its carbon-fibre bezel.

The watch is water resistant to 10 bar (100 metres), while its strap is made from stitched rubber and Nomex®, a synthetic fibre developed by Dupont De Nemours and used in the manufacture of Formula One drivers’ overalls due to its very low combustibility.

Hublot recently auctioned for charity a Zirconium version of the F1 King Power, which had been specially-engraved with Han Han’s personal motto, ‘For Freedom’. At Friday’s event a cheque for RMB 420,000, which included RMB 100,000 donated to the cause by Han Han himself, was handed over to the One Foundation, a charity set up by Hublot brand ambassador Jet Li to help HIV children in China.
