Vergne penalised for blocking Senna 06 Oct 2012
Toro Rosso driver Jean-Eric Vergne has been demoted three places on the grid for the Japanese round after stewards decided he blocked Williams Bruno Senna during qualifying on Saturday.
Senna was in the latter stages of a flying lap near the close of Q1 when he came upon Vergne travelling more slowly. The Brazilian, who subsequently failed to make it through to Q2, complained that the Frenchman had hindered his progress.
Vergne, who did manage to get through to Q2, had been set to start the race from 16th. As a result of the penalty he will now drop to P19 on the Suzuka grid. Senna, meanwhile, moves up one place to 16th.
Pole-sitter Sebastian Vettel was also summoned to see the stewards for allegedly impeding Ferraris Fernando Alonso during Q3 and was subsequently given a reprimand for the incident.
