Gearbox penalty for Maldonado 21 Apr 2012
Williams Pastor Maldonado is set to drop five places on the grid for Sundays 2012 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix following an unscheduled gearbox change.
Maldonado, who finished eighth at the last round in China, was 15th fastest in Fridays second practice in Sakhir, but will now be penalised by the stewards after the team opted to replace the box on his Renault-powered FW34.
The penalty is a blow for Williams, who have made a relatively strong start to their 2012 campaign, scoring 18 points from the first three rounds to put them seventh in the constructors standings.
