Schumacher hit with gearbox penalty 22 Apr 2012
Michael Schumachers difficult Bahrain weekend continued on Sunday morning after his Mercedes team confirmed he will drop five places on the starting grid as penalty for a late gearbox change.
Schumacher qualified a disappointing 18th after a DRS problem in Q1 and was due to start 17th thanks to a similar gearbox penalty for Williams Pastor Maldonado. The seven-time champion now falls to 22nd on the grid, though Mercedes may yet opt to start him from the pit lane, which would allow them to make set-up changes to his car.
In the second W03, Schumachers team mate, Nico Rosberg, will start the race from fifth as he looks to repeat his Chinese Grand Prix victory of last weekend.
