Sauber’s Esteban Gutierrez and Marussia’s Max Chilton have both been given penalties by race stewards for impeding during the Q1 part of qualifying in Austin on Saturday.

Gutierrez - who qualified 10th - has been given a 10-place grid penalty for blocking the Williams of Pastor Maldonado and will now start 20th on the grid.

"Car #12 unnecessarily impeded car #16 between Turns 19 and 20 whilst performing manoeuvres that the stewards consider dangerous," read an official statement.

Chilton - who qualified 22nd - received a drive-through penalty for impeding both Maldonado and Force India’s Adrian Sutil. The Briton must serve the penalty during the first five laps of the race.
