Ferrari’s Felipe Massa and Sauber’s Esteban Gutierrez have been handed three-place grid penalties by the Spanish stewards for impeding during Saturday’s qualifying session for the Barcelona race.

After reviewing the evidence, the stewards decided Massa had blocked Red Bull’s Mark Webber during Q2 and Gutierrez had hindered the progress of Lotus’s Kimi Raikkonen during Q1. The Brazilian had qualified in sixth but now drops to ninth, whilst the Mexican had been set to start the race from 16th but will now occupy P19 on the Spanish grid.

When both penalties are taken into consideration, the starting order should be: Rosberg, Hamilton; Vettel, Raikkonen; Alonso, Grosjean; Webber, Perez; Massa, Di Resta; Ricciardo, Vergne; Sutil, Button; Hulkenberg, Bottas; Maldonado, Van der Garde; Gutierrez, Bianchi; Chilton, Pic.
