Caterham Racing GP2 driver Sergio Canamasas will step up to Formula One machinery for the first time this week when he completes an aero test with the Caterham F1 Team in France on Thursday. The day will see Canamasas behind the wheel of Caterham’s CT03 for one of the team's official 2013 aero tests, playing an important role in the on-going development of the car.

"Taking part in the aero test with the F1 team is another step in my development and it's good to have the chance to help the team continue the progress they've made so far this year,” said the 27-year-old Spaniard.

“I'm going to the factory at Leafield before the test for a seat-fit and to go through the detailed run plan for the day with the engineers and with no GP2 activity until Silverstone at the end of June I can fully focus on my F1 work for the next few weeks."

Mark Smith, Caterham’s technical director, commented: "The current regulations allow us to run a number of aero tests each season that give us the chance to run through aerodynamic development programmes away from the time constraints of an F1 race weekend.

“Sergio will be in the car for us at the test we will run on 20th June and he will help us run through a very busy day of track work, helping us to continue to develop and giving him another level of exposure to the F1 environment in which he is aiming to compete in the future."

Canamasas graduated to GP2 in 2012 with Team Lazarus before moving to Caterham for 2013. He is yet to score his first championship point.
