Nico Rosberg pipped Mercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton for the fastest time during Saturday morning's final practice session at Silverstone. Hamilton had had the upper hand throughout the session, but a mistake on his penultimate lap upset his flow and Rosberg's 1m 31.487s lap beat his 1m 31.750s best. Subsequently Hamilton improved on his final lap to 1m 31.633s.

Earlier, Sergio Perez had just had Williams' Valtteri Bottas beat him to the fastest time, with 1m 33.603s to his 1m 33.607s, when his McLaren's left-rear hard tyre threw its tread. The Mexican was able to limp back to the pits for repair work as the session was momentarily red flagged, but he never went faster.

Behind the Mercedes duo, Sebastian Vettel spent much of the session doing set-up work before bouncing from the back to third place on 1m 32.037s, just ahead of Red Bull team mate Mark Webber who made a mistake while trying to improve on his 1m 32.078s best.

Romain Grosjean got closest to the quartet with 1m 32.391s for Lotus, ahead of the still impressive Toro Rosso of Daniel Ricciardo, who recorded 1m 32.440s to head Fernando Alonso on 1m 32.454s for Ferrari. Then came Kimi Raikkonen on 1m 32.459s in the other Lotus, Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta in the Force Indias on 1m 32.536s and 1m 32.571s respectively, Jean-Eric Vergne on 1m 32.580s in the second Toro Rosso and Jenson Button on 1m 32.926s.

Pastor Maldonado was 13th for Williams with 1m 33.133s ahead of Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber on 1m 33.225s, Felipe Massa's Ferrari on 1m 33.273s, Bottas on 1m 33.309s, Sauber's Esteban Gutierrez on 1m 33.370s and Perez on 1m 33.607s.

Charles Pic led the final quartet for Caterham with 1m 34.971s, by the narrowest of margins from Marussia's Jules Bianchi on 1m 34.990s. The fourth Briton, Max Chilton, was 21st for Marussia with 1m 36.694s, ahead of Caterham's Giedo van der Garde on 1m 37.443s.
