Could a Shelby Mustang really be a hairdresser's car?
Toyota test driver Franck Montagny, the flamboyant Frenchman of Formula One racing, lets slip just a few personal secrets…
Q: What’s in your garage at home?
A: A GT 500 Shelby Mustang from ‘67. I tracked this kind of car for a long time and now it’s in my garage! Real cool. Plus a 450 Husqvarna (motorbike) and a Lexus IS250.
Q: Tell us something we don’t know about you
A: Well, I own a shop in Spain - Barcelona 480 Padilla - with a friend. It’s a hairdressers, but we’ve split it in half so it’s 50 percent clothing and 50 percent hairdresser. We open until midnight every Thursday and we bring in a DJ and champagne - it’s quite cool sometimes!
Q: Your favourite song for karaoke?
A: Well I don’t sing, so I don’t have a song!
Q: What's the most unusual request you've had from a fan?
A: I’ve never met crazy fans. They were always, or nearly always, very nice and so there is not much to report - sorry.
Q: When you're at home, what do you listen to when driving?
A: It very often depends on the weather! It can be good old soul, or hip hop, or some rock ’n’ roll. I stick in those three areas.
Q: Best part of being a Formula One driver - apart from the driving?
A: To not be obliged to work. I mean it’s a job, but we are travelling all around the planet, we are living out our passion and we are paid for that! The question should be, ‘do you think there is a better job on earth?’
Q: Your most prized possession?
A: My family - and my Shelby!
Q: What would you be if you weren't a racing driver?
A: Playing music for sure, or another sport… but I really think I would be in music.
Q: Person you most admire?
A: Nobody. I admire action not people.
Q: Do you have any bad habits?
A: Ooh… plenty….
Q: Last good deed you did?
A: Invite two very good friends of mine for a weekend to celebrate the birthday of another good mate. It was really cool.
Q: Who would you want to play you in a movie?
A: Chewbacca, or Vincent Cassel.
