Brawn BGP001 - steering column packaging 09 May 2009
In Spain Brawn, like many teams, introduced a new rear aero package around the exhaust exits, but it's interesting to note two other clever solutions on the Mercedes-powered car. One is the low position of the steering column (left arrow), at the same level as the front suspension's lower wishbone. This lowers the car's centre of gravity, improving balance and handling. Also helpful in this area is the flexible range of options the team have available to them in terms of putting ballast in the knife-shaped section of floor at the front of the car (right arrow).
