Lotus E22 - offset exhaust / rear wing 02 March 2014

The Lotus is undoubtedly the most unusual car in the 2014 paddock, not only with its asymmetric nose section at the front, but also at the rear, with its single wing pillar offset to the left and the exhaust exit offset to the right of the centreline. It's hard to say what the reasons for this solution are, though it could be that it improves extraction of hot air from the left sidepod where there are higher cooling requirements from the new hybrid power unit. On Saturday in Bahrain the team tested a wider sidepod exit to improve cooling in the hot conditions of Sakhir.
