Ferrari 248 F1 - engine cover 31 January 2006

Unsurprisingly, given the move to V8s for 2006, the 248 F1's engine cover is not as big as its predecessor's, though you need to look hard to notice. The engine air intake (1) is smaller - less air is needed to feed two fewer cylinders - while at launch the air-venting chimneys (2) were purely aerodynamic, acting as sealed winglets to manage airflow passing over the sidepods. The main part of the cover (3) is narrower around the engine and its top edge serves as a fin, directing airflow in optimum fashion towards the rear wing.
