McLaren MP4-27 - revised sidepod design 22 July 2012
There are so many changes to the McLaren at Hockenheim that the MP4-27 is very nearly a 'B-spec' version of its predecessor. The extensive list of updates include lower and more sculptured sidepods, new exhausts, new radiator installation, a revised floor in front of the rear tyres, a new diffuser, new rear wing endplates and modified brakes ducts. In this drawing we can see the new sidepods, which have enhanced the way the exhausts blow onto the lower section of the car's rear and the edge of the diffuser. The flow of air has been much improved as it now passes through a deeper and wider undercut and blows onto the central section of the diffuser and the starter hole.
