When Pierre Gasly entered his first Formula 1 race at the 2017 Malaysian Grand Prix, he was already one of the most exciting prospects in junior single-seater racing – and being touted by many as an F1 world champion of the future.

After taking the GP2 title in 2016 – beating current Alfa Romeo racer Antonio Giovinazzi – Gasly dovetailed the final part of the 2017 Japanese Super Formula series with outings for Toro Rosso in F1, before stepping up to a full-time seat with the team for 2018.

From there, Gasly has experienced a true rollercoaster ride at the top echelon of the sport, the nadir being the death of his close friend Anthoine Hubert weeks after his demotion from the senior Red Bull squad in 2019 – while the high was most certainly his superb victory for AlphaTauri at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix.

Discover how Pierre Gasly went from karting hopeful to one of the most highly respected of the current crop of young F1 drivers in Aramco Presents: Rise of the Rookie in the video player above.
