Ocon replaces Magnussen for FP1 at Silverstone
Renault reserve driver Esteban Ocon will make his second appearance of the season this weekend when he takes over Kevin Magnussen’s car for Friday’s opening practice at the 2016 Formula 1 British Grand Prix.
Ocon, the reigning GP3 champion, previously replaced Jolyon Palmer for the same session at May’s Spanish round, though technical problems limited his running. He did, however, complete over 100 laps in the subsequent post-race Barcelona test.
The 19-year-old Frenchman is currently on loan to Renault from Mercedes, for whom he is competing in DTM this year. He is also expected to drive for the Mercedes F1 team in next week’s two-day test at Silverstone.
