Toro Rosso appoint new technical director 02 Apr 2007
Toro Rosso announced on Monday the appointment of Giorgio Ascanelli as the teams new technical director. Ascanelli, who has been working in a similar role for Maserati Corse, will replace temporary stand-in Alex Hitzinger as technical chief.
Ascanelli arrives at the Italian squad with a great deal of Formula One experience. The 48 year-old Italian was a Ferrari race engineer for many years, before becoming head of R&D for the team and has also enjoyed brief stints at Benetton and McLaren. During his career, Ascanelli was also race engineer to Toro Rosso co-owner and ex-Formula One driver Gerhard Berger.
Hitzinger will now return to his original role in charge of Red Bull Technologys Advanced Technology Department.
