Spain analysis - Ferrari strike back in style

After their disastrous Bahrain outing, Barcelona proved a near perfect weekend for Ferrari. As Fernando Alonso delighted his home fans with victory, team mate Felipe Massa joined him on the podium, a superb drive nullifying his grid penalty.

And as the Scuderia cut Red Bull's championship advantage to only 14 points, Kimi Raikkonen's second place for Lotus reduced Sebastian Vettel's lead atop the driver standings to just four

Qualifying analysis - will Mercedes carry their form into the race?

Tyre conservation is still the name of the game in Spain, and on Saturday many drivers were mindful of the need to save rubber for the race.

Thus while Mercedes' polesitter Nico Rosberg and the Ferrari and Lotus drivers made two Q3 runs, Lewis Hamilton, the Red Bull drivers, Sergio Perez and Paul di Resta made do with only one

Friday analysis - Red Bull out to spoil Alonso's homecoming

The wet weather in Spain on Friday morning meant that the teams had their work cut out to assess their all-important upgrade packages in FP1, and thus they all had plenty of work to get through in the mercifully dry second session.

Three types of dry tyre were used during a busy afternoon's running - the medium compound, the revised hard compound and, for practice only, an unmarked hard prototype tyre. We take a team-by-team look at the early form in Barcelona

Pre-Spain analysis - Ferrari play it cool in Catalunya

Despite Fernando Alonso's victory in China, and the fact that the Scuderia have scored a lot more points after the first four races than they had this time last year, Ferrari chief designer Nikolas Tombazis says that he would only score their start to the season at 60 percent.

"I think in general, the first results mean we can be reasonably optimistic about the rest of the season, with a sense that we can fight for wins and the championship," said Tombazis. "However, if I was to score our overall performance, I would only give it a six out of 10 and that's for two main reasons.

Flashback: Spain '91 - Mansell defeats Senna to stay in title hunt

The 1991 Spanish Grand Prix gave us one of the most memorable images in F1 history - Nigel Mansell's Williams running wheel-to-wheel with Ayrton Senna's McLaren along the Circuit de Catalunya's 300km/h pit straight, sparks flying from beneath both cars, with barely a hair's breadth between them.

In the build-up to this weekend's Barcelona round, read the story of that absorbing race

Seven of Formula One racing's 11 teams went into the 2013 season with either a completely new or a revised driver line-up.

It's common knowledge that the first person every driver wants to beat is his team mate, so with that in mind we take a look at how those all-important intra-team rivalries are shaping up after four races

Technical spotlight - F1® fuel systems

A Formula One car's fuel system is unusual in that it involves both the chassis and engine design teams - the former are responsible for the design and operation of the fuel cell, lift pumps and collector, while the latter look after the main fuel pump, filters and injectors.

In the final year of the V8 engine formula, Renault - who power Red Bull, Lotus, Williams and Caterham - guide us through their RS27 engine's intricate system

Bahrain analysis - Vettel turns up the title heat

Lotus's Kimi Raikkonen and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso - arguably his two biggest rivals - may have been hampered by a low grid slot and a DRS malfunction respectively, but that couldn't detract from the imperious nature of Sebastian Vettel's Bahrain victory for Red Bull.

Raikkonen drove another superb race to finish second from a P8 start, but was powerless to stop Vettel extending his championship lead to 10 points

Paddock Postcard from Bahrain

With just a few days to pack up and make the journey from China to Bahrain, on-track preparations and activity dominated the build-up to Sunday's race. Red Bull's Mark Webber, however, managed to find a little time to celebrate his 200th Grand Prix start at Sakhir.

“It's amazing to think it's 200 starts already,” said Webber. “I can remember my first race like it was yesterday, but that's the way it goes. Time passes very quickly. It's a good milestone and I'm proud to have made the 200-club. There have been some good moments along the way too.”

Qualifying analysis - can Rosberg stay ahead?

With Pirelli opting to bring their hard and medium compounds to Bahrain, the tyre situation has been slightly less precarious in Sakhir than it was last week in China, but tyre conservation was still the name of the game in qualifying on Saturday.

Mercedes' Nico Rosberg confirmed pole on his second run in Q3, but team mate Lewis Hamilton only did one run

Friday analysis - Lotus looking hot in the desert

Friday's first free practice sessions in Bahrain were in consistent conditions ambient temperatures ranging between 43 and 45 degrees Celsius in the morning and 39 and 41 in the afternoon. That enabled teams to do their usual set-up and tyre evaluation work, but though Pirelli's two hardest compounds seem more durable than the choices in China, drivers report that their behaviour is not entirely what they expected

Pre-Bahrain analysis - Alonso downplays Ferrari's Sakhir chances

Despite a resounding victory in the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai last week, Fernando Alonso said on Thursday that he is not going into this weekend's race in Bahrain in the belief that Ferrari have the best car.

The win put him firmly back in the points battle after his retirement on the second lap in Malaysia, and demonstrated that the F138 was extremely competitive - much more so than last year's F2012 at the same point of the season, as he led Lotus's Kimi Raikkonen home by 10.1s. He now lies only nine points adrift of series leader for Red Bull, Sebastian Vettel. Alonso still believes, however, that Red Bull remain the yardstick.
