Bruno Senna - more than just a famous name?

If ever a driver was destined to make it into Formula One racing then you could argue it was Bruno Senna. And finally it has come to pass. The nephew of the late, great three-time champion Ayrton, Senna will make his race debut with the new Spanish team Campos Meta next season.

At the mature age of 26, by modern F1 standards Senna is not exactly young. So how did he find his way to the pinnacle of motorsport? Here's the story of his career to date…

The 2009 Season Review - Part Three

Raikkonen did give Ferrari a win, at Spa, after fending off…Fisichella! On that occasion, however, the Italian was still with Force India, whose Mercedes-powered car showed remarkable form on circuits where low downforce was required. Adrian Sutil proved very fast but wild and accident prone in the other car, but only Raikkonen's KERS prevented Fisichella from staging a huge upset victory in Belgium. Fisi's replacement, the underrated Vitantonio Liuzzi, was headed for a podium finish behind the Brawns at Monza when his car broke a driveshaft...

The 2009 Season Review - Part Two

The British Grand Prix at Silverstone in June marked the start of the spiral that threatened Button's title aspirations. Another update put the Red Bulls far ahead there as Vettel led home Webber, and with third place Rubens Barrichello began the second half of season form that made him the contender he had always claimed to be...

The 2009 Season Review - Button a natural Brawn winner

Well, that was some season! Yet another stunning FIA Formula One World Championship that created a fresh and unexpected chapter of history.

Brawn GP, the Phoenix that rose from the ashes of Honda, became the first 'new' team ever to win their first two races and go on to win both the drivers' and constructors' titles. They won eight races, took four one-twos and 15 podiums, though they didn' t have it all their own way...

Nico Hulkenberg's road to Formula One racing

Following the well-trodden path of most great drivers, Nico Hulkenberg began his career on the kart track. After starting at the tender age of ten back in 1997, within five years Hulkenberg was already making waves. In 2002 he was named German junior karting champion and the following year, after progressing up the ranks, won the German karting championship proper.

Sixteen years earlier, a young Michael Schumacher had clinched the very same title. It was a fact not lost on Schumacher's legendary manager Willi Weber, who promptly signed up the young lad from Emmerich. By 2004 Hulkenberg had added an Italian Junior Championship to his list of achievements and Weber began looking for a way into single-seater racing for his young protege.

Abu Dhabi race analysis - Red Bull finish 2009 season on a high

They may not have won either championship, but they did dominate the latter part of the 2009 season. Sebastian Vettel's imperious performance at Yas Marina gave Red Bull Racing their third win on the trot, with Mark Webber's second place securing their fourth one-two of the year.

But it wasn't only Red Bull celebrating on Sunday night. The inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix - F1 racing's first twilight event - was deemed a huge success by all concerned and threw up some thrilling action...

Paddock Postcard from Abu Dhabi

Like Monaco and Singapore, Abu Dhabi drew celebrities and Middle Eastern royalty like a magnet as the dramatic Yas Marina Circuit was adjudged a huge success.

Beyonce returned to Formula One after her appearance in Singapore, and was joined by fellow musical stars Kings of Leon, Aerosmith, the Wailers and Jamiroquai, together with rapper Timbaland. And even US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton paid a brief visit, as did American basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar...

Qualifying analysis - flying Hamilton surprises Red Bull

The first day/night qualifying session proved a complete success on the dramatic new Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, where Lewis Hamilton's pace in the McLaren surprised Red Bull duo Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. This trio seems to have a small but crucial advantage over the Brawn duo of Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button.

For the record, the fuel weights were: Hamilton, 658.5 kg; Vettel 663, Webber 660, Barrichello 655, Button 657, Toyota's Jarno Trulli 661, BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica 654.5, BMW Sauber's Nick Heidfeld 664, Williams' Nico Rosberg 665 and Toro Rosso's Sebastien Buemi 661.5.

Friday analysis - surviving a very steep learning curve

A very dirty track and surface temperatures that reached 47 degrees Celsius made life interesting for all the drivers as practice got underway at 1300 hours on Friday at Abu Dhabi's all-new Yas Marina Circuit, in readiness for Formula One's first day/night race. It was cooler in the second session - around 35 degrees track temperature when it began at 1700, the same time as the race will start on Sunday. We take a team-by-team look at progress…

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Preview - prepare for a storming '09 finale

Jenson Button and Brawn GP may have clinched both world championships in Brazil, but the inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix promises to be an absolute sizzler of a weekend.

Work began on the exciting new Yas Marina track back in February 2007 and has continued since then with dramatic intensity as a workforce of 14,000 invested 35 million man hours shifting 1.6 million cubic metres of earthwork, laying 720,000 square metres of asphalt and pouring 225,000 cubic metres of concrete...

Mosley prepares to bow out as FIA President

Max Mosley has been an integral part of Formula One racing for as long as many people can remember. But on Friday, after a 16-year stint as FIA President, Mosley will look on as his successor in the role - either former world rally champion Ari Vatanen or ex-Ferrari team principal Jean Todt - is elected.

Brazil race analysis - Button and Brawn get the job done

Mark Webber drove a near perfect Brazilian Grand Prix, but his win was too little too late to keep Red Bull in the hunt for the constructors' title. Similarly, there was nothing the Australian could do to prevent team mate Sebastian Vettel's hopes of the drivers' crown evaporating.

Instead it was Brawn's Jenson Button singing 'We are the champions' as the flag fell. He'd made up nine places on his P14 grid slot, while team mate and polesitter Rubens Barrichello had lost seven, sealing the destiny of both championships in the process…

Button's road to glory - how keeping the faith finally paid off

There must have been moments in 2008 when Jenson Button felt like giving up. Honda had landed him with a car that gleaned him just three points, forcing him to watch a younger British driver, Lewis Hamilton, take the title he had long craved. Then the Japanese manufacturer pulled the rug out from under him, withdrawing from Formula One racing and putting the team up for sale...

Brawn GP complete fast track to championship triumph

Twelve months ago, as Ferrari secured the 2008 constructors' crown, talk turned to who would triumph in '09. Would it be the Italian team again? Would arch rivals McLaren fight back? Or would new powerhouse BMW Sauber steal their thunder? One team not mentioned was Brawn. Then still Honda and languishing ninth in the standings with just 14 points, only a brave soul would have bet on the Brackley squad.

But at Interlagos on Sunday - with one race in hand - Brawn defied the odds, rounding off their fairytale debut season with their very first drivers' and constructors' title. Formed at the last minute from the remnants of the Honda team after the Japanese manufacturer's shock withdrawal last December, it's been an incredible story.
