NICK HEIDFELD
2009
Scores fortuitous podium in wet-dry Malaysian race, then struggles to break into the points thanks to F1.09's lack of pace. In Belgium, however, team's development work pays off and he finishes fifth from third on the grid. A further three points finishes take him to 13th in the final standings.
2008
As quick and consistent as ever in races, with four podiums and no retirements, but patchy qualifying form leaves him overshadowed by team mate Robert Kubica, finishing sixth overall to the Pole's fourth. Retained by BMW Sauber for 2009.
2007
Best of the rest behind the Ferrari and McLaren drivers after an impressively consistent season for BMW. Dominates team mate Robert Kubica, scoring 14 times, including a second place in Canada and a third in Hungary.
2006
Exploits growing competitiveness of the BMW Sauber to take ninth in the drivers' standings. Seems to raise his game on the arrival of new team mate Robert Kubica, scoring the team's first podium under BMW ownership in Hungary.
2005
Upstages highly-rated Williams team mate Mark Webber by taking pole at the Nurburgring and beating the Australian to second place in Monaco. Misses the last five races through illness/injury. Quits the team to join BMW's new works squad for 2006.
2004
Tough season with Jordan brings just three points, but he goes on to win Williams drive for 2005.
2003
Qualifies in the top ten three times and scores six points. Dropped by Sauber for 2004.
2002
A fourth, a fifth and two sixth places in his second season with Sauber. He finishes tenth in the drivers' championship.
2001
Now with Sauber, scores 12 points and ends up eighth in the drivers' championship.
2000
Makes his Formula One race debut with the Prost team. No points scored.
1999
FIA International Formula 3000 champion with the West team. Also serves as McLaren Formula One test driver.

Runner-up in the FIA International F3000 championship with three wins and seven podiums.
