Red Bull wows Melbourne with annual party 15 Mar 2008
Some may have tried to steal the party crown from Red Bull, but nobody ever manages to throw a night-time extravaganza with as much panache as the energy drinks company. If further proof of their festive credentials were needed, then Red Bulls traditional season-opening party on Friday in Melbourne did just that.
Held in the Australian citys docklands area, Red Bull transformed a usually empty warehouse into a neon-lit heaven. The 1800-strong crowd of guests included the cream of the countrys acting talent, as well as Red Bull drivers Mark Webber and David Coulthard, and Toro Rossos Sebastian Vettel and Sebastien Bourdais.
Glamorous showgirls and exotic circus acts teased the eyes, while flowing drinks and delicious gourmet food tickled the taste buds. And as if that werent enough to keep the partygoers happy, Red Bull also managed to get house music legend Carl Cox to DJ at the event.
Cox, who began his career in the mid-1980s, was joined on stage by US rap star Common, who has most recently turned his talents to acting, alongside Angelina Jolie in the soon to be released film Wanted. Common had earlier visited the Albert Park paddock and was enthused enough by the Formula One atmosphere to give the guests a real treat with his spectacular live act.
With qualifying at the forefront of their minds, all four Red Bull drivers called it a night early on in the evening in order to be fit and fresh for Saturday. The rest of the guests, however, partied on long into the night - taking full advantage of Red Bulls unrivalled hospitality.
