Panis safe after Barcelona testing accident 05 Feb 2004
Toyota's Olivier Panis became the second driver in as many days to escape serious injury after crashing during testing at the Circuit de Catalunya on Thursday. It follows Felipe Massa's heavy accident at the end of the main straight on Wednesday. Like Massa, Panis was airlifted to hospital for precautionary tests.
Panis, conducting Toyota's 2004 development programme along with team mate Cristiano da Matta, went off backwards into the barriers at Turn three during the afternoon session. The Frenchman walked away from the wreckage before being examined by circuit medics and then helicoptered to hospital for further observation. Toyota have not yet confirmed the cause of the accident.
