And so, at last the Formula One action kicks off officially here in Melbourne’s Albert Park with the first practice sessions for the 2005 FIA Formula One World Championship.

Yesterday the weather was cloudy but warm, with a high of 23 degrees Celsius, and today it will largely be more of the same with less threat of showers than initially forecast.

Today’s high is expected to be 21 degrees Celsius, dropping as low as 18 on Saturday and Sunday when there may be showers. As the locals observe, autumn in Melbourne has begun.
