After last week’s successful tandem sessions at Paul Ricard and Fiorano, Ferrari headed to the Mugello circuit on Wednesday for further work. The Italian team, who lead the constructors’ championship by three points, are clearly keen to maximise their pace ahead of the final three races.

Michael Schumacher and veteran tester Marc Gene were both on duty and spent the day testing new mechanical and aerodynamic components, alongside selecting tyres.

Schumacher was the quickest of the pair, clocking a best time of 1m 21.362s over the 5.245-kilometre circuit. The German completed 57 laps of the course, whilst Gene racked up 111 and set a fastest time of 1m 22.510s.

Testing continues at Mugello on Thursday with Schumacher and Luca Badoer at the wheel, while team mate Felipe Massa will conduct a shakedown run at the track at Fiorano.
