Red Bull Friday drive for Ammermuller 27 Sep 2006
Michael Ammermuller will fulfil Red Bulls Friday driving duties at the forthcoming Chinese and Japanese Grands Prix. The German GP2 star takes the place of Robert Doornbos, who has been promoted to a race seat for the rest of the season following Christian Kliens departure.
This is a fantastic opportunity for me, said Ammermuller, who enjoyed a successful test with the team in Spain last week. Formula One is the ultimate for every racing driver and to have the chance to work as a test driver for Red Bull Racing is very exciting.
Working with the team at the test in Jerez it was obvious it has big ambitions, which is very motivating. Im now completely focused on my task ahead. Ill be looking to learn as much as possible and Im in the right place and with the right team to be able to do that.
A product of the Red Bull Junior Programme, Ammermuller was its most successful driver in 2005. Racing in the Italian Formula Renault Championship and the Eurocup, he scored nine victories, 21 podiums, seven pole positions and seven fastest laps.
In 2006 he moved to GP2, where he contested the championship for the Arden International Team, finishing 11th overall in the series.
