Briatore leads bid for London football club 03 Sep 2007
A consortium led by Renault team principal Flavio Briatore is set to become the new owner of Queens Park Rangers (QPR) football club. The bid for the London team, which also involves Formula One Management CEO Bernie Ecclestone, has been recommended by the clubs board.
According to QPR, current Chairman Gianni Paladini will remain on the board, where he will be joined by Briatore, who hopes to return the club to Englands top division, the Premiership, following several difficult seasons.
"Bernie and I were delighted to receive a recommendation from the Board of QPR for our bid for the Club and we look forward to working alongside Gianni Paladini and his team, Briatore told the clubs official website.
"We are fully aware of the history of QPR and the loyal fan base that it has; we are therefore totally committed to bringing future success back to the Club. Gianni, Bernie and I are all determined to see the Club return to the Premiership as soon as possible."
