Jean-Eric Vergne will start Sunday’s 2012 Formula 1 UBS Chinese Grand Prix from the pit lane after his Toro Rosso team made changes to his car overnight in Shanghai.

Vergne had qualified a disappointing 18th, prompting Toro Rosso to decide it was worth breaking parc-ferme regulations in order to improve the Frenchman’s potential race pace.

They hence replaced several components on his STR7, so he is now required to begin the race from the pit lane. Team mate Daniel Ricciardo is 16th on the grid.
