Practice Two - Hamilton ahead as McLaren edge Ferrari 07 Sep 2012
McLaren went to the fore at Monza on Friday afternoon, as Lewis Hamilton edged out team mate Jenson Button by 0.038s while the Ferraris gave valiant chase.
Hamilton lapped in 1m 25.290s shortly after Button had gone fastest with 1m 25.328s. Fernando Alonso was not far behind, however, with 1m 25.348s and Felipe Massa backed him strongly with 1m 25.430s. The Spaniard had a miserable session after a brake issue followed by a suspected gearbox problem limited him to just 17 laps.
Behind that quartet, Nico Rosberg was fifth for Mercedes with 1m 25.446s as Kimi Raikkonen completed the top six with 1m 25.504s. Right behind the Lotus were the Force Indias, with Paul di Resta on 1m 25.546s from team mate Nico Hulkenberg on 1m 25.547s.
Sergio Perez was ninth for Sauber on 1m 26.068s from Michael Schumacher on 1m 25.094s. It remains to be confirmed whether the German veteran will get a grid place penalty for a gearbox change on his Mercedes.
Mark Webber was Red Bulls faster runner, in 1m 26.104s from Lotus recruit Jerome DAmbrosio on 1m 26.157s. His team mate Sebastian Vettel was only 13th on 1m 26.394s from Williams Pastor Maldonado on 1m 26.404s, Toro Rossos Daniel Ricciardo on 1m 26.724s, Saubers Kamui Kobayashi on 1m 26.730s, Williams Bruno Senna on 1m 26.783s, Caterhams Heikki Kovalainen on 1m 26.841s and Toro Rossos Jean-Eric Vergne on 1m 26.864s.
Vitaly Petrov couldnt match his Caterham team mate, with 1m 27.222s, not far ahead of the Marussias of Timo Glock and Charles Pic on 1m 27.944s and 1m 27.968s respectively.
At the back, Pedro de la Rosa was 23rd with 1m 28.575s for HRT, with team mate Narain Karthikeyan right behind him on 1m 28.779s. Karthikeyans session ended slightly early after a small technical issue.
