Marussia’s Jules Bianchi has been forced to sit out Practice Two in Japan on Friday afternoon after damaging his car in a crash in FP1.

The Frenchman went off at Turn 9, Degner 2, during Practice One, badly damaging the front of his car. He was later seen nursing his elbow on ice.

Although Marussia reported that Bianchi’s chassis is repairable, the team will now focus on building up a spare chassis in time for him to resume running in Practice Three on Saturday morning.

The rookie had already been facing a challenging weekend having earned a 10-place grid penalty at the previous race in Korea after picking up his third reprimand of the season.
