Force India have signed GP2 race winner James Calado as their third driver. Calado will make his official debut with the team at Monza this Friday in opening practice for the Formula 1 Gran Premio d'Italia 2013.

The 24-year-old Briton finished fifth in last year’s GP2 championship and lies fifth in the 2013 standings, having taken his first win of the season at Spa-Francorchamps last weekend. He also drove for Force India in July’s young drivers test.

“We worked with James during the Silverstone test and he impressed everyone with his speed and consistency,” said Force India team principal Vijay Mallya. “We’ve always tried to support young drivers and this is a great opportunity for James to gain some valuable experience of driving during Formula One race events.

“James will take part in the opening free practice session on Friday. He will also run in practice at several other races this year. It’s always useful to get another driver’s feedback on the car and it will help us evaluate James.”

Force India lie sixth in the 2013 constructors’ standings, with race drivers Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil having scored 61 points between them.
