Grosjean set for grid drop after gearbox change
Romain Grosjean is set to receive a five-place grid drop in Italy after Haas were forced to make an unscheduled gearbox change on his VF-16 following final practice.
The Frenchman spun off at the Ascari chicane early in FP3 and became beached in the gravel trap, saying over the radio that he had ‘lost the gearbox’ before clambering out of his car.
F1 regulations state that a driver must use the same gearbox for six consecutive events, with a failure to do so incurring a grid penalty.
