F2 Virtual Racing Monaco - Arthur

Arthur Leclerc took victory on a virtual version of the streets he calls home in the F2 Virtual Monaco Sprint Race on Sunday afternoon – though he only actually crossed the line in second place.

The Monaco native was running second to pole man Juan Manuel Correa and was desperately probing for a way past the Charouz team driver throughout the five-lap race, but Correa kept the door firmly shut.

But on the final lap, just when it looked like Leclerc would have to settle for second, Correa was given two tme penalties, and when the two crossed the finish line nose to tail, Leclerc was immediately handed the win.

It was an agonising finish for Correa, while Leclerc was no doubt delighted after a frustrating time in the earlier Feature Race.

Deletraz takes victory in the Feature Race

In the first, 21-lap race of the afternoon, Leclerc clearly had good speed, but endured a torrid time from third on the grid.

He was up to second on the first lap, but thereafter he could not pass early leader Lirim Zendeli – and then lost second place to Louis Deletraz who pulled off a stunning move round the outside of the hairpin.

From there Leclerc fell down the order and, after a long battle with Jack Aitken, eventually spun while trying to make a pass for second place on the last lap. That dropped him down to sixth by the end of the race.

Meanwhile Deletraz built on his superb move on Leclerc to take the fight to leader Zendeli, and when the Charouz racer dropped out with technical problems, Deletraz was able to cruise home to victory.
