Felipe Drugovich will line up on pole for the Formula 2 Feature Race on Sunday after a five-place grid penalty for Liam Lawson relegated the Red Bull junior driver from the front row.

In Monaco, Formula 2 qualifying sessions are split evenly into two groups of 11. The 16-minute sessions are then aggregated together in order to form the grid.

In the closing moments of the Group A session, Drugovich hit the barriers at the final corner, bringing out the yellow flags. Lawson completed his lap to go fastest, but was handed a post-qualifying penalty, meaning he will now start from P5.

In Group B, Pourchaire was fighting with another Red Bull junior in Juri Vips for the top spot. Vips had set the fastest lap in Group B until the ART Grand Prix driver put in his final flying lap just in time before the session was halted.

Theo Pourchaire will line-up alongside MP Motorsport driver Drugovich on the front row.

Van Amersfoort Racing’s Jake Hughes hit the barriers on the entry to the Swimming Pool chicane with a minute remaining, bringing out the red flags. The Briton was OK following the crash, but with insufficient time left to restart the session and get any flying laps in, Group B qualifying was ended early.

Alpine Academy driver Jack Doohan had been under investigation for setting his fastest time under yellow flags but escaped any sanction. Vips had to settle for fourth ahead of the penalised Lawson.

Enzo Fittipaldi put in a strong performance for Charouz Racing System and the Brazilian will start from sixth in the Feature Race at 0950 local time on Sunday. Marcus Armstrong, Jehan Daruvala, Dennis Hauger and Hughes make up the rest of the top 10.

The F2 Sprint Race begins at 1740 local time on Saturday – after Formula 1 qualifying.
