Trident Motorsport’s Roman Stanek claimed his maiden FIA Formula 3 victory in a dramatic 24-lap Feature Race at Imola on Sunday.

Stanek prevailed in a duel against Ollie Bearman to pick up his first win, in a race held in mixed conditions and punctuated by three Safety Car periods.

The early stages of the race took place in damp conditions, which allowed those who started on wet tyres, such as Caio Collet and Pepe Marti, to enjoy a spell in the lead. But the slick-shod racers soon came to the fore, allowing pole-sitter Zane Maloney to recapture the lead, ahead of team mate Stanek and Ferrari protege Bearman.

However, Maloney spun out from P1 on the second Safety Car restart, with Bearman inheriting the lead. Stanek then regrouped, tailing Bearman, before making a move for the lead on the penultimate lap.

After a clash with Gregoire Saucy, Bearman then dropped down to P4 as Jak Crawford capitalised to make it back-to-back podium finishes in P2 – Isack Hadjar sneaking through the late clash to take P3.

Rounding out the top five, after making up 16 positions, was Arthur Leclerc. Kush Maini claimed sixth with Zak O’Sullivan bouncing back from an early spin for P7.

Victor Martins failed to score but retains the championship lead on countback of wins, with both him and Leclerc sitting on 34 points – Feature Race winner Staněk close behind on 33 ahead of the next round in Spain.
