RACE DEBRIEF

Mercedes may have kept their powder dry across Friday’s running at Silverstone, but the Silver Arrows unleashed the full force of their attack in Free Practice 3 for the British Grand Prix on Saturday, with Valtteri Bottas leading team mate Lewis Hamilton – the first time a Mercedes has led a session this weekend.

But while Mercedes’ pace was impressive, it was a fine session for Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who finished just three-tenths off Bottas’ time in third – although his team mate had a less enjoyable time of it, with Alex Albon consigned to the garage for much of the session with an electrical issue, a day after his big crash in FP2.
