Hamilton crashes out at start of qualifying

Lewis Hamilton is set to start Sunday’s Brazilian Grand Prix from the rear of the grid after a rare error saw the world champion put his Mercedes into the Interlagos barriers early in qualifying.
Hamilton had not even set a lap time when he lost the rear of his car midway around the quick Turn 7, giving the Briton no chance of keeping it out of the tyre wall.
Though Hamilton was unhurt, the heavy impact caused extensive damage to the left side of his F1 W08, ripping off the front wheel and suspension.
It is the first time since Belgium 2016 that Hamilton has been eliminated in the first phase of qualifying.
