HIGHLIGHTS: Watch the action from an entertaining first practice session in Miami
Charles Leclerc was the quickest driver on track in FP1 at Miami International Autodrome, as the drivers got their first taste of the brand-new circuit.
Leclerc set a time of 1m31.098s, which was quick enough to lead the upgraded Mercedes of George Russell by 0.071s. Max Verstappen was a further 0.179s behind his championship rival in third – with Red Bull team mate Sergio Perez in P4.
Leclerc’s team mate Carlos Sainz suffered from a puncture on his front right tyre, but he still managed to come home in sixth, behind Pierre Gasly in P5. Williams’ Alex Albon produced an impressive performance in the session to finish in P7, ahead of Lewis Hamilton in P8.
Valtteri Bottas brought out the only red flag in the session with a spin at Turn 7.
