Carlos Sainz topped the timings in the second session of Day 2 at pre-season testing, after his Ferrari team mate Charles Leclerc did likewise during a curtailed morning session in Bahrain.
Following a clean sweep from Red Bull’s Max Verstappen on the first day, it was Ferrari’s turn to showcase their pace with Sainz breaking the 90-second mark by clocking a 1m 29.921s lap on the soft C4 tyres.
That lap came in an elongated five-hour afternoon session after the morning session was brought to an early close after Leclerc ran over a drain cover and left debris on the track. Lewis Hamilton subsequently ran over the debris, with Leclerc driving over it a second time afterwards, and it wasn’t long before the red flags were flown.
With all F1 teams collecting more valuable data at the Bahrain International Circuit, there is now just one more day of testing to go before all eyes turn to the Bahrain Grand Prix next week.
