Charles Leclerc ended the opening day of action at the season-closing Abu Dhabi Grand Prix by topping the timesheets in a disrupted Free Practice 2.
As the sun began to set, in more representative conditions than earlier in the day, the red flags were thrown early on when Carlos Sainz suffered a heavy crash. Fortunately the Ferrari driver reported that he was okay.
The running resumed with 25 minutes left on the clock, before a second red flag came out when Nico Hulkenberg spun and clattered the barriers.
After the action got underway again, it was Leclerc who ultimately led the way at the Yas Marina Circuit with a lap of 1m 24.809s. Lando Norris was 0.043s back in second, while Max Verstappen claimed third place from an impressive Valtteri Bottas in fourth and Sergio Perez in fifth.
George Russell – who had set the pace in Free Practice 1 – was sixth ahead of Zhou Guanyu in seventh. Lewis Hamilton, Pierre Gasly and Oscar Piastri rounded out the top-10.
