HIGHLIGHTS: Watch the qualifying action as Leclerc takes United States GP pole after Verstappen loses lap time
Charles Leclerc will start the United States Grand Prix from pole position, with the Monegasque taking the P1 spot for Sunday's race after Max Verstappen had his lap time deleted.
While Leclerc had initially topped the timesheets in the final moments of Q3, Verstappen looked to have taken his place with his last flying lap. However, the Red Bull driver had breached track limits at Turn 19 of the Circuit of The Americas, ultimately pushing him down to P6.
Lando Norris will start alongside Leclerc on the front row after putting in the second quickest time, continuing McLaren’s recent good form, while Lewis Hamilton took third place.
Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz claimed P4, with George Russell – who, like Verstappen, also had a lap time deleted in the session – lining up in fifth.
It proved to be a particularly difficult qualifying for Aston Martin as the team faced a double elimination in Q1, marking the first time this season that this has happened to Fernando Alonso.
