ROAD TO F1: Sargeant retakes F3 championship lead in style at Spa

If you want to make it on the Road to F1, then there’s only one way to respond when you lose the Championship lead: taking it straight back. Logan Sargeant did exactly that in the Formula 3 Race 2 in Belgium, reclaiming first in the standings from team mate Oscar Piastri in resounding style.

The American lost first place to the Renault junior in Race 1 on Saturday after suffering from mechanical issues, but firmly bounced back on Sunday. Sargeant enjoyed a lightning getaway to fire ahead of title rival Liam Lawson and into second when the lights went green.

This put him in the perfect place to challenge reverse polesitter Richard Verschoor, and he dispatched him at the second corner of the first lap. He rarely looked in trouble from this moment onwards, brushing off a late attack from Frederik Vesti in the final laps to finish 0.8s ahead.
Piastri worked hard in a desperate attempt to retain his advantage at the top of the table, but could only manage sixth place, after a 5s time penalty, for leaving the track and gaining an advantage, curtailed his efforts to get further forward.
