RACE DEBRIEF

Bent Viscaal put in the drive of his life to finish first in the second Formula 3 race of the weekend, but it was David Beckmann who claimed a maiden win, as Viscaal was handed two five-second time penalties.

Viscaal had worked tirelessly to force a six-second gap at the front, which would have still seen him take third after those penalties were applied. The first penalty was given for a collision with Igor Fraga, and the second for an off-track overtake on Logan Sargeant.

But the Dutchman ended up finishing way back in 17th once the penalties had been applied, as a late Safety Car – caused by a crash for Federico Malvestiti – destroyed his margin and spoiled all of his hard work.

Renault junior Oscar Piastri was able to increase his control of the championship with second place, behind Beckmann, while Red Bull Junior Dennis Hauger sealed his first podium in F3, with third.
