WATCH: F1 helps two young home-bound fans meet their heroes in the Bahrain paddock with AI robots
A couple of VIP guests were given a virtual tour of the F1 paddock at the Bahrain Grand Prix as the Awabot returned to action – also stopping by for a chat with some familiar faces up and down the pit lane…
Seen at several races in the past, the Awabot AI robot gives fans who are hospitalised or home-bound the chance to meet their heroes through video calls – taking them to the heart of the action from afar.
Over the course of the season opening weekend, Ewan, 13, who has a genetic condition that left him with brain and organ damage, and Charlie, 14, who has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and other health complications, were virtually transported from the UK to Sakhir for some very special conversations.
While the Awabot travelled up and down the paddock, Ewan and Charlie were introduced to Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, Alpine pair Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, and Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu.
